The NBA Finals are upon us once again and we have a great match up between the Western Conference Champion Oklahoma City Thunder and Eastern Conference Champion Miami Heat. For Miami their right back where they want to be with a shot at redemption after losing in last years NBA Finals to the Dallas Mavericks 4-2. For the young guns in Oklahoma City there moment is right now also being led by the NBA’s top scorer in Kevin Durant. Miami is led by the Big 3 Lebron James, Dwanye Wade and Chris Bosh. The Thunder also pose a trio of scorers in Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and James Harden.
Miami was in the Finals last year and they know the pain they had to grow through in losing to Mavericks in six games. This year they came back more vengeance and knocked off the New York Knicks, Indiana Pacers and Boston Celtics. The Oklahoma City though young are very experienced, it wasn’t too long ago they were a laughing stock but now they laugh at opponents as they overwhelm them with a speed and quickness.
Everyone wants to see the Lebron- Kevin Durant match up including myself, will they guard each other for whole game or are they going to guard each other sometimes. The only thing i know is that coming down into the late stretches of the game they’ll be guarding each other. I know he’s the bud of a lot of Miami Heat Haters jokes but Chris Bosh plays a significant role in the Heat plans. He’s one of the best shooting big men in the league and provides a presence on the glass for Miami. Okc also has some pretty good big guys of their own as well in Serge Ibaka and Kendrick Perkins. When i think of those two, i think intimidation for Perkins and swat master for Ibaka. Mr. Ibaka leads the league in block shots and forces more difficult shots with his length.
In this finals we have so many juicy match ups to watch for. A key one in my eyes is Russell Westbrook vs Mario Chalmers. Russell Westbrook is one of the most athletically skilled point guards to come along in a while and he’s so quick in getting to the basket. His improvement on his mid range game has also help OKC’s offense to more crisper. I think that Mario Chalmers is very underrated player in the league also, he plays hard defensively, he’s very quick and decisive with the ball and don’t leave him open for three because he will knock them down with regularity.
Even though he comes of the bench James Harden plays a big time role for OKC. He has as an assassins trigger from three point land, he creates turnovers because of his quickness to get into the passing lane and he’s also the NBA’s 6th Man of the Year. Dwanye Wade has been a mainstay for the Heat since 2003 and is one of the most clutch players that we have in the NBA today. He’s gotta play with reckless abandon, take it to the basket with purpose and be a leader when things aren’t going well for the heat.
Pat Riley used to have a saying that went like this:” No Rebounds No Rings”. So whoever rebounds the ball better between the two clubs will win. Whoever bench steps up and plays more consistently will win. The team who commits less turnovers will win, the team who can defend the three point line will win. And last but not least who executes down stretch will win the championship.
I won’t make a prediction but what i will predict is that this series is going to at least 6 or 7 games. This series will be rough and tough and whoever wants it most the most will crowned an NBA Champion. Is it 3rd times a charm for Lebron or will the young guns of OKC led by Kevin Durant break through for their 1st title. Let’s see how it plays out shall we!
