Well it’s finally here, the crazy three week bonanza known as March Madness is finally upon us. This is the time to watch all the games and go wild with your friends and family while you watch 64 teams battle to be the National Champion for 2012-2013. I was only about 7 or 8 years old when this epic tournament entered my life. I’m 23 now and i still get just as excited now as i did when i was a kid. What fan, player or coach doesn’t wanna hear the song ” One Shinning Moment” as you bask in a moment in time that will last forever. This year the Tournament will be held in one of my favorite cities Atlanta, Georgia. 64 teams will be battling in non-stop, pulse pounding action to get to there.
I have too many favorite March Madness Moments to name, but here are some of mine. In 2008, Mario Chalmers from Kansas banked in a game tying 3 pointer so send to game to overtime. In OT Kansas would win their 1st National Championship in 20 years. In 2011 up start team VCU crashed the party and went on to their first final four appearance. In 1982, Michael Jordan gave head coach Dean Smith his first National Championship at North Carolina. In 2001, Duke coming back from 20 down at halftime in National Semifinal game. How bout the Florida Gators going winning back to back Championships in 2006 and 2007.
March Madness isn’t without heart break either. In 2010 Butler’s Gordon Hayward missed a half court shot that would have Butler it’s 1st National Championship. In 1993 Michigan’s Chris Webber called a time out when he didn’t one and that essentially ended the Fab Five’s tenure in College Basketball. In 1992 Christian Laettner dashed Kentucky’s would be National Championship dreams when he hit a game winning jumper and sent the Wildcats home. Keith Smart ended Syracuse’s National Championship hopes as he hit ” The Shot” back in 1987.
March Madness is an American Tradition and it’s something that whole country looks forward to every season. March Madness is a phenomenon that captivates the country for a short time but that short time is magic for people who love this time of the year like myself. Don’t believe me ask President Barack Obama who fills out brackets just like the rest of everyday people. March Madness is a time to represent for your city, your town, your fan base and most of all your pride. It’s unpredictable, It’s thrilling, It’s exhilarating, It’s heartbreaking, It leaves you on the edge of your seat. It’s March Madness 2013, let the Madness begin!
