Today the #1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide roll in to College Station, Texas to do battle the #6 ranked Texas A&M Aggies. When the schedule came during the Spring, everyone had this game marked on their calender. Why you ask? It’s simple both programs enjoy great histories of pride and winning but it’s what happened last season that had College Football fans looking forward to this match up. Last November Johnny Manziel led his Aggies into Tuscalosa and pulled out a dramatic 29-24 victory over the eventual National Champion Alabama Crimson Tide. That loss last year to the Aggies was the only blemish on Alabama’s record. You think Nick Saban can’t wait to get off the bus and take on Manziel and the Aggies? You think Manziel and the Aggies are looking to silence the haters that said last season’s victory over Alabama was a fluke? The answer to those two questions is an emphatic Yes which is why we can’t watch this game at 3:30 today on CBS.
Alabama is led by head coaching wizard Nick Sabin who has won at every stop in his coaching career in College Football. He’s the proud owner of Four National Championships. He’s won 3 out of the last 4 National Championships with Alabama and he’s made the Crimson Tide the modern day dynasty in College Football. AJ McCarron is the quarterback for the two time defending National Champs and he’s very cool under pressure. He sports a 36-5 record as the Crimson Tide Starting quarterback. He also has deadly weapons in the passing game including Amari Cooper who eclipsed 1,000 yards in his Freshman campaign last season. He also has reliable targets in Kenny Bell (Sr), De Andrew White (Jr), and Christion Jones (Jr). The running game is orchestrated by work horse T.J Yeldon (So) and seems to have picked up right where he left off in his freshman yr where he rushed for:1,108 yards and 12 touchdowns. Alabama feeds of their defense and this yr is no different. They have playmakers at the linebacker position including: Adrian Hubbard (Jr), C.J. Mosley (SR) and Trey DePriest (SO), All those guys play the run well and can get into the backfield give your quarterback fits. Alabama has an experienced secondary in the defensive backfield as well in: Hasean Clinton-Dix (Jr), Deion Blue (SR) and Vinnie Sunsiari (Jr).
Texas A&M is coached by Kevin Sumblin and in his first year as A&M Head Coach, he silenced critics who said that the Aggies wouldn’t be able to compete in the beast known as the SEC Conference. In last season’s match up, it was his defense that took it right to AJ McCaron and punched Bama right in the mouth as they jumped out to 21-0 lead. He doesn’t have Sean Porter or Damantre Moore on defense who have gone on to play in the NFL. He has a whole bunch of young pups on the verge off breaking out and causing havoc on defense. Sumblin also has the reining Heisman winner in Johnny Manziel. Manziel befuddled Sabin’s vaunted Defense last season as he accounted for over 345 yards and two touchdowns. Manziel will have very good targets to throw to in: Mike Evans (So), Ricky Seals-Jones (Jr) and Malcome Kennedy (Jr). In last years game, Manziel proved that no moment is too big for him or the Aggies. He’s also has very good stable of running backs in which he can hand the ball to including: Ben Malena (Sr), Trey Williams (So) and Tra Carson (So).
1) In the trenches: Alabama doesn’t have the Offensive line that plowed holes and opened up passing lanes for AJ McCarron anymore. Chance Warmack, Barrett Jones and Dj Fluker have all gone on the NFL and are now replaced by new inexperienced offensive linemen. This match up comes down to effort, intensity and who just wants it more.
2) Coaching: Nick Sabin has Four National Championships but Kevin Sumblin out coached him last season. Which ever team doesn’t commit dumb penalties and turnovers will win the game.
3) Skill Positions: T.J Yeldon can’t put the ball on the ground like he did last season and both teams defensively love to play man to man bump and run coverage. Whoever receivers can get off press over consistently will determine the outcome of this game. Ben Malena, Tra Carson and Trey Williams will see playing time for Texas A&M and they must be effective because Manziel can’t do it all alone.
4) Sabin vs Manziel: Johnny Football made Sabin’s defense look mortal in last yr’s game but this time around Sabin has two weeks to prepare for him.Sabin does a masterful job of mixing in his pressure schemes and zone coverage. He excels in taking away what you do best. Manziel must be under control and can’t let his emotions get the best of him. Johnny Football must make throws in teeth of the blitz that will be coming after him all game long.
College Football fans have been waiting for this game for while now and you know Kyle Field tonight will be in a frenzy like Alabama has never seen before. Whoever wins this game could have the inside track to winning the SEC or quite possibly the National Championship. Is Alabama ready for what awaits them tonight? and can Johnny Football duplicate his great performance like he did last season against Crimson Tide? It takes place before a crowd that will be going insane from start to finish. It’s Gig em vs Roll Tide, It’s Sabin vs Sumblin, It’s Sabin vs Johnny Football. It’s Alabama vs Texas A&M and it all goes down today at 3:30.
